Vol. 307 No. 4

Written Answers . - Copper Piping Rationing .

163.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy why copper piping manufacturers have rationed their product to their customers; if he has inquired into the method of rationing; and if he is satisfied with the outcome.

: I am informed that because of the present abnormally high demand for copper piping the principal manufacturer introduced an allocation system, based on deliveries in 1977, to ensure that available supplies would be distributed among its regular customers as equitably as possible. I understand that deliveries are now at a level well in excess of average monthly deliveries during the year 1977 reflecting the company's increased production in the current year.

If there is any suggestion of unfair or restrictive practices any information in this regard should be addressed to the Examiner of Restrictive Practices for his attention.
