Vol. 307 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Meath Land Allocation .

27.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is satisfied that the normal regulations applying to allocations of land by the Land Commission, with regard to (a) distance from farm; and (b) usage and sale of the portion of land previously allocated to the applicant, have been observed in the case of the Mooney farm at Gravelstown, Carlanstown, Kells, County Meath.

: The Deputy will be aware that the selection of allottees is a matter which is reserved exclusively to the Lay Commissioners.

I understand that the lands referred to were included in a composite scheme for the disposal of three holdings, aggregating 110½ acres—of which 103½ acres were recently allotted—and that it was found possible in the disposal of the lands to give additions to deserving applicants up to a distance of 1 5/16 miles.

The Land Commission are satisfied with regard to the usage of the lands already held by the successful applicants. I am informed that one allottee recently sold two building sites and is applying the proceeds towards the cost of 12 acres purchased last year.
