Vol. 307 No. 7

Written Answers . - Cork Houses .

135.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in the light of almost 100 applications for rehousing lodged with Macroom UDC and his decision to make no capital allocation to facilitate new housing starts in Macroom before 31 July 1978, he will make a substantial allocation to Cork Council in respect of housing at an eary date.

: Macroom Urban District Council indicated to me in February last that they did not expect to commence work on a proposed scheme of 18 local authority houses in the town before September next and it is for that reason that I have made no allocation of capital to the council in respect of work to be started before the 31 July 1978. When the council are in a position to accept a tender for the scheme, I will consider the making of an allocation of capital to finance the work.

asked the Minister for the Environment if it is proposed to build local authority houses at Kilbrin, Kanturk, County Cork; and if so, when he expects work to commence.

: I understand from the housing authority that they have not yet formulated any proposals for a housing scheme at Kilbrin but that they are carrying out a survey of housing needs there at present. I cannot say when work is likely to be started on a scheme.
