: Centres jointly assisted by my Department and the Department of Health have recently been established by voluntary bodies in a number of areas in which training is provided for moderately mentally handicapped, and a small number of mildly handicapped school leavers in order to prepare them for employment—either in an open situation or in sheltered workshops. My Department's assistance takes the form of grants towards the cost of the instructional programme at the centres.
I have not received any proposal regarding the establishment of such a centre in Waterford city.
