Vol. 307 No. 9

Written Answers . - Arterial Drainage Schemes .

136.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will recruit urgently the necessary staff to ensure the early completion of the planning of the arterial drainage scheme for the Mulcaire catchment area in counties Limerick and Tipperary.

: Continuous efforts are made by the Commissioners of Public Works to recruit the engineering staff required for projects currently in hands. Even with the recruitment of the full number of staff required I am unable to say, owing to other commitments, when a scheme for the drainage of the Mulcaire catchment area can be formulated.

137.

asked the Minister for Finance when the arterial drainage scheme for the river Suir, County Tipperary, will commence; and if he will make a comprehensive statement on the up-to-date position in this matter.

: A considerable amount of work remains to be done before a drainage scheme for the Suir catchment area can be formulated. At this stage I am unable to say when a scheme might reach the works stage.
