Vol. 307 No. 9

Written Answers . - School Numbers Decline .

175.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the concern of the Board of Management of St. Kevin's Boys' School (19022) and St. Kevin's Girls' School (19023) about the decline in the number of pupils attending and teachers employed at these schools during recent years; if he is aware of their proposal that the board be permitted to retain one teacher for each class group; and if his Department are in a position to help these schools in this situation.

: I am aware of the concern of the boards of management about the decline in the numbers of pupils attending and teachers employed in these schools in recent years. However, indications are that the enrolment in both schools will permit the retention of five teachers in each school for 1978-79 thus allowing one teacher to take charge of each class group.
