: The grant from the Department of Labour Vote to congress in respect of its education, training and advisory services this year is £193,000. This represents an increase of 7.2 per cent on the 1977 figure and an increase of 329 per cent over the financial year 1973/74, when my Department first assumed responsibility for the grant. I am conscious of the valuable role being played by the education, training and advisory services in the field of trade union education and I am anxious to ensure that the arrangements governing the grant to congress for the services will be the most favourable that can be obtained, having regard to the resources available to the Exchequer.
