Vol. 307 No. 10

Business of Dáil .

: This morning, on the Order of Business, I asked the Taoiseach whether he would indicate what legislation the Government intend dealing with before the adjournment and he requested that I raise the matter at the end of Question Time.

: My understanding is that the information sought by the Deputy was conveyed to the Whip of his party and that in the circumstances, therefore, Deputy Cluskey should not be raising it at this time.

: I am complying with the Taoiseach's request.

: That is so.

: I admit that I have not had the opportunity of discussing the matter with the Whip but I reserve the right to raise the question now.

: I am not questioning the Deputy's right. I am merely explaining the position to him as I understand it.

: Are there any Estimates to be discussed before the recess other than those which have been introduced already?

: All outstanding Estimates will have to be dealt with before the recess.

: Will the budget debate be concluded before then?

: Not necessarily.

: Does this mean that all the Estimates will be telescoped in the Adjournment Debate?

: No. They will be separate from the Adjournment Debate.

: Could the Tánaiste indicate when we are adjourning?

: Have the Government no proposals in regard to that?

: If the Deputy has not heard any rumours he may hear something more specific at a later and more appropriate time.

: I got enough rumours in the manifesto. I did not get factual information.

: The manifesto is proving far more factual than most of the Deputy's statements.

: On a point or order, I understand you said that you might be able to give your ruling on the matter which was raised at Questime Time later today. Would it be possible for you to do that before tomorrow so that those questions could, in the light of your ruling, be taken?

: In any event the questions will be on tomorrow's Order Paper if they have been ruled in order.

: They could be taken if the Minister is in possession.

: The matter was already debated in the absence of the Deputy.

: Will the Ceann Comhairle give his ruling before tomorrow so that we will have those questions on the Order Paper if the Ceann Comhairle, in the light of further consideration with his advisers, revises his opinion?

: Finance Bill, amendment No. 11.

: I am entitled to an answer.

: The House already took a decision in regard to this matter. I do not want to start all over again.

: I understood the Chair to say that perhaps he might give his decision today. Can we take it that it will be given before Question Time tomorrow?

: A more orderly way of proceeding than the way we have had to proceed in this matter would be to move a motion of censure. I have no desire to do that.

: The Chair gave an undertaking to make a statement today in regard to this matter.

: The Deputy raised it at Question Time and wishes me now to go over what the House has done.

: I understood you to say that you would make a statement.

: The House made a decision on this. Will the Deputies now allow the Finance Bill to continue?

: The Chair has given an undertaking to the House to make a statement today regarding the matter.
