Vol. 308 No. 6

Private Notice Question: - Cessation of Dublin Milk Supplies.

A Cheann Comhairle, there is a Private Notice Question which, I understand, you agreed could be taken. It is addressed to the Minister for Labour.

Will the Deputy please read the question?

To ask the Minister for Labour if he is aware of the considerable hardship being caused by the current cessation of milk supplies to the greater Dublin area and if he will make a detailed statement on this dispute.

Discussions on the basis of settling the dispute are at present taking place at the Labour Court. Accordingly, a detailed statement on the dispute would not be appropriate at this time.

May I ask is the Minister for Labour out of the country at present?

I do not see that that is relevant to the subject matter of the question.

The Minister for Labour is in Rome as a member of our delegation at the inauguration of Pope John Paul II.

If the Deputy has any supplementary questions arising from the reply I shall be delighted to deal with them.

Otherwise, please leave the lecture theatre.
