Vol. 308 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

467.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have an application by a person (details supplied) in County Cork for a non-contributory old age pension attended to without delay.

The claim for pension by the person concerned has been investigated and was referred to the local pension sub-committee for decision on 29 May 1978. No pension has been paid, however, as the social welfare officer has appealed against the sub-committee's decision awarding a pension at the maximum rate, on the ground that the claimant's means exceed the statutory limit for entitlement to pension.

A deed of transfer of the claimant's farm has been executed and the appeals officer awaits confirmation that the deed has been stamped before he gives his decision.

468.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have disability benefit paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The person referred to by the Deputy claimed occupational injury benefit from 26 August 1978 but his claim was disallowed on the grounds that the incapacity was not caused by an accident arising out of and in the course of employment nor by a prescribed disease developed due to nature of employment. The claim was subsequently considered for disability benefit but the records of my Department show that he had no contributions paid or credited in the 1977 contribution year which governed the period of his claim.

The person named was informed of the position and requested to furnish information regarding the stamping of his card but he has not replied to date.

469.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have disability benefit paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

Following inquiries into her insurance position, title to disability benefit by the person referred to by the Deputy was established and the full amount due to the date of the last medical certificate received has been issued.

470.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why an old age pension of only £1 per week has been granted to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly.

A non-contributory old age pension at the rate of £1 a week was awarded provisionally to the person concerned with effect from 7 July 1978 as his means, consisting mainly of his earnings as a county council worker, entitled him to a pension at this rate. It has been learned that the claimant has recently retired and the social welfare officer is putting a revised estimate of means before the local pension committee whose function it is to decide the case.
