Vol. 309 No. 4

Written Answers. - Army Service Abroad.

70.

asked the Minister for Defence the minimum age at which members of the Armed Forces are allowed to undertake service abroad.

There is no minimum age limit laid down for the selection of members of the Permanent Defence Forces for overseas services.

However, as the minimum age for enlistment for general service in the Permanent Defence Force is 17 years and as a reasonable time must be allowed for sufficient military training, a man would not normally be selected for overseas service under 18 years of age.
