Vol. 309 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Land Registration.

9.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the serious upheaval caused to persons (details supplied) in County Galway, by the incorrect registration of land in the area; and if he will take action immediately to resolve this problem.

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that the error in question, which was made in 1946, did not involve an incorrect registration of land but was an error in recording plan numbers on a Land Registry map. This error led to difficulties in connection with a transfer of property in the case in respect of which the Deputy supplied details. The error has been corrected and registration of the transfer has been effected. The problem has, accordingly, been resolved.

I want to ask just one supplementary question.

(Interruptions.)

The Chair is doing its upmost to ensure that Deputies keep order.

You are more concerned with Deputies on this side of the House than you are with Deputies over there. You had to be pressured into taking action.

Are we not allowed to put even one supplementary?

I had called the next question before anyone offered.

I was offering.

Could we hear the answer to Question No. 8?

Question No. 8 was being answered when I was trying to restrain Deputy Harte. It is not the Chair's fault if the answer was not heard and in future I will not allow questions to be gone back on again.

In the last two weeks I have tried to get two questions on the Order Paper and both were ruled out. I have just one supplementary question to ask the Minister on Question No. 8. I will ask the Minister first to repeat his reply and if he does not——

If the Deputy would ask his question without any preamble it might be better.

I will take that as consent. Does the Minister think it is proper, from the point of view of trying to restrain armed robberies, to reduce in real terms the amount of money made available to the Garda Síochána for equipment? I have in mind the 1977 figures voted for equipment.

This is not a relevant question.

I am giving the figures. The question arises out of armed robberies.

It is not relevant.

I did not hear the answer to Question No. 9.

Does the Deputy wish to ask a supplementary question?

Can I have an answer to my supplementary question which relates to the amount voted for equipment and armed robberies?

That is a separate question. Would the Deputy please co-operate with the Chair?

Could I have the answer to Question No. 9?

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that the error in question, which was made in 1946, did not involve an incorrect registration of land but was an error in recording plan numbers on a Land Registry map. This error led to difficulties in connection with a transfer of property in the case in respect of which the Deputy supplied details. The error has been corrected and registration of the transfer has been effected. The problem has, accordingly, been resolved.
