Vol. 309 No. 10

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

308.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the date on which a person (details supplied) in County Cork applied for a telephone; and when it is proposed to provide it.

The application was made on 10 May 1976. It is expected that service will be provided in about a year's time.

309.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state, in relation to telephone applicants residing on Broadford Hill and Broadford Walk, Ballinteer, Dublin 16, the number of applicants, the date of the longest outstanding application, when service will be provided, and the reason for the delay, if any.

There are 65 applicants for service, the oldest application dating from October 1974. Provision of service for applicants in these two areas is dependent on completion of a cabling scheme. It was not possible to do this cabling work when cabling the remainder of the Broadford estate in 1976 because the necessary ducts had not been laid at the time by the building contractor. There are many cabling schemes awaiting attention now, the programme for attending to them having been disrupted by industrial action earlier this year. For this reason I regret it is not possible at present to give a reliable estimate as to when the cabling scheme in question will be completed but I shall communicate with the Deputy when an estimate can be given.
