Vol. 310 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Transport.

50.

asked the Minister for Education whether there are any plans for the extension of the school bus service in East Mayo; and, if so, if he will give details.

The schools transport scheme is operated in East Mayo on the basis of criteria which apply to the country as a whole. If the Deputy has any specific query I shall be happy to have the matter investigated.

51.

asked the Minister for Education if it is intended to have a complete review carried out of the school transport system as operating at present.

The present school transport scheme has been the subject of a study carried out on behalf of my Department by a firm of management consultants. The report of this study is at present under consideration.

52.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the promise made by his Department that all pupils from Fahy national school catchment area, County Galway (details supplied) would be provided with free transport to Raheen national school; and that this promise has not been fulfilled.

Since Fahy national school was amalgamated with Raheen national school in 1971, a special transport service has operated to bring children living in the Fahy closed school area to Raheen national school. I am not aware that the scheme is not being operated as intended.
