Vol. 310 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Cork Sewerage Schemes.

227.

asked the Minister for the Environment when work will commence on the Blarney Tower sewerage scheme, County Cork.

I approved the Cork County Council's preliminary proposals for this scheme in July last. The question of when work will commence on the scheme will not arise until the scheme has been fully planned and approved.

228.

asked the Minister for the Environment the cause of the delay in proceeding with the proposed sewerage scheme for Fermoy town, County Cork; and when this very urgent work will commence.

The local authority's proposals for Stage 1 of Fermoy sewerage scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes and the large number of such projects getting to or in construction at the present time. I cannot say at this stage when I will be in a position to convey a decision to the local authority on this scheme, contract documents for which were submitted to my Department on 25 September and which are at present being examined.
