Vol. 310 No. 9

Written Answers. - Fare-Assisted Passages.

89.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider favourably, particularly in context of next year's budget, the introduction of a scheme whereby old age pensioners and needy persons would have fare-assisted passages, or wholly subsidised passages, to visit relatives abroad.

Suggestions relating to the extension of existing schemes of social welfare are normally considered in the context of the annual budget but there are many other improvements which I would regard as having priority over the one suggested by the Deputy.
