asked the Minister for the Environment is it is intended to upgrade the West Cork road network, to facilitate the ever-increasing tourist traffic, as well as the expanding local industries.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Road Network.
I have allocated grants totalling £675,000 to Cork County Council for the improvement of national roads and bridges in 1979. In addition, I have allocated a block grant of £801,000 to supplement the council's resources for works on main and county roads, in respect of which it is a matter for the council to determine the amount to be spent in the West Cork area. I have allocated further grants to the council, totalling £671,000, for the maintenance of the national road network in the county, in which case also it is the responsibility of the council to select the works to be undertaken.
(Cavan-Monaghan): Does the Minister appreciate that unless the engineers strike is settled very little of this money will be spent.
Is it not settled?
(Cavan-Monaghan): The Minister should know more about it than I do. What about Tuesday fortnight?
Is it not settled?
(Cavan-Monaghan): Tuesday fortnight may tell.
