Vol. 313 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Battered Wives.

2.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that the refuge for battered wives in Limerick may have to close for lack of funds, and the steps, if any, he proposes to take to prevent this happening.

I am aware of the difficulty regarding the refuge in Limerick. However, discussions are taking place between officers of the Mid-Western Health Board and the authorities of the refuge to agree on ways and means of overcoming the short-term problem, and to make plans for improved services for battered wives in the area. If any proposals are submitted to my Department following these discussions, they will be considered quickly and sympathetically.
