Vol. 313 No. 8

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

39.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the long delays in having telephones installed in Tramore town and district, County Waterford.

It has been necessary for some time to restrict connection of new subscribers to Tramore exchange because the existing exchange is fully loaded. It is expected that an extension to the exchange, which will enable service to be provided for waiting applicants, will be brought into service within six months.

40.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs to outline the reasons for the undue delay in transferring the telephone exchange at Cahir, County Tipperary, to a fully automatic exchange, and if he will specify the precise date on which it will come into operation.

In normal course the exchange would be converted to full automatic working about the end of this year. Because of pressure of more urgent work and industrial action, however, the placing of an order was delayed and conversion is not now expected to take place until mid 1981.

41.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the exact date on which the automatic telephone exchange at Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, will come into operation.

It is not possible at this stage to give an exact date but it is expected to be about three years.

50.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the Cashel Loan Fund, Cashel, County Tipperary is still in existence; if so, to state (a) the number of loans approved of during 1978, (b) the amount of capital in the fund, and (c) the names and addresses of its trustees; and, if not, when it ceased operation.

The Cashel Loan Fund Society which is still in existence did not approve of any loans in 1978. It has agreed to wind up its affairs but the matter has not yet been finalised despite repeated efforts by my Department.

From information available to me the nominal value of the capital in the fund is in the region of £5,000.00. The trustees are: Mr. Richard Allison, Bohermore St., Cashel; Mr. Noel Davern, Tannersath, Clonmel; Mr. Raymond Davern, Main St, Cashel; Mr. Donal Feehan, Main St., Cashel, and the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture ("ex-offico").
