Vol. 314 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Second Level School Management Boards.

7.

asked the Minister for Education if it is intended to allow students the right to be represented on boards of management of second level schools and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no proposal under examination in my Department at present for the inclusion of students in boards of management of second level schools. I do not consider that a statement from me in relation to the matter is necessary.

Would the Minister favour the presence of second-level students on boards of management?

I never considered the matter.

Will the Minister not consider the matter? Senior students who have the right to vote for Members of this House should surely have the right to be members of boards of management of their own institutions?

Yesterday another Deputy made the point about voting rights in connection with another question. As I said, I have not considered the matter.

Will the Minister consider the matter?

There has been no request to me to consider the matter.
