Vol. 314 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Dublin Traffic.

234.

asked the Minister for the Environment when traffic signals will be provided on the Dodder Park and Braemor Roads, Dublin.

The provision of traffic signals or other such facilities is a matter for the road authority acting with the consent or at the request of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána. However it is understood that Dublin Corporation propose to convert the existing uncontrolled pedestrian crossing on Breamor Road to pedestrian operated signals within the next few months.

235.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the action he intends to take in view of the ever increasing traffic along the Dodder Park and Braemor Roads in Churchtown, Dublin.

I have informed the Deputy in reply to Questions Nos. 234 and 236 of the local authority's project for a new link road in the south and west county and also of the position regarding the provision of traffic signals on the Dodder Park and Braemor Roads. Any further traffic management measures to be applied in this route are the responsibility of the road authority acting where appropriate with the consent or at the request of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána.

236.

asked the Minister for the Environment the progress to date on the South County Link Road and if this road during its construction will reduce the intolerable burden of traffic along the Dodder Park and Braemor Roads, Dublin.

I notified Dublin County Council on 3 October 1978 of my approval in principle to the council's proposal for a new link road on an alignment running between Naas Road at The Red Cow and Harold's Grange and to the council proceeding with detailed planning for the route, and I have provided road grants totalling £1.385 million towards the cost of a scheme for a section of the route from Naas Road to Tallaght Road, on which the council have commenced construction work.

I am advised that the new link road will assist in relieving traffic conditions along the Dodder Park and Braemor Roads when the full route between Nass Road and Harold's Grange has been completed.
