Vol. 314 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carlow Garda Station.

16.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the very poor condition of the Garda Station in Carlow town in view of the fact that this building is 150 years old and because the lack of proper accommodation is causing grave unrest within the station staff; the proposals, if any, to provide facilities, services and accommodation in keeping with the needs of a modern police force and modern living standards; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

17.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the exceptionally poor conditions of the Garda Station in Carlow town; and in view of the fact that all members of the station have signed a petition in support of a medical report by a doctor (name supplied) the proposals, if any, to remedy the position.

I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 16 and 17 together.

I am aware that Carlow Garda Station is an old building not up to modern standards and that its condition is a source of dissatisfaction to the occupants. It is intended to replace it by a new station and a site for that purpose is at present under consideration. In the meantime, plans for the repair and improvement of the existing premises have been finalised and tenders for the works are being invited this week.
