Vol. 314 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin School.

18.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that it is four years since the Office of Public Works left unfinished works at Our Lady Queen of Angels School, Drumfin Road, Dublin; why no further action has been taken since then, if he will arrange an immediate inspection of the school with a view to issuing a report as a matter of urgency on the state of repair of the school and the action it is proposed to take to rectify the situation.

This school was erected under the supervision of an architect who was employed by the manager. In 1976 some cracks appeared in the school building and the chairman of the board of management was advised to take the matter up with his own architect who designed the school and to submit a report with an estimate of costs of remedial work so that the question of a grant could be considered. The report and statement of cost have not yet been received.

Responsibility for dealing with the problem rests with the reverend chairman of the board of management and his architect. The Office of Public Works are not directly involved in the matter. Nevertheless, I arranged for an architect from the Office of Public Works to meet with the reverend chairman so that the items needing attention might be clearly indentified and the board of management advised what action should be taken.

There were also some problems about heating and the Office of Public Works advised the manager and paid the appropriate grant. A burglar alarm system was installed but some additional items are required and notification of the completion of these is awaited before payment of a grant can be considered.
