Vol. 314 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Monuments Deterioration.

26.

asked the Minister for Finance the location of any high crosses or other ancient stoneworks in the care of the Office of Public Works which are in danger of significant deterioration because of (a) chemical attack arising from atmospheric pollution and (b) vibration caused by motor traffic, and the action he has taken or intends to take in the near future to alleviate the situation.

The Commissioners of Public Works advise me that high crosses and other such ancient stoneworks in their care are inspected regularly. None is showing signs of significant deterioration because of chemical attack arising from atmospheric pollution or because of vibration caused by motor traffic.
