asked the Minister for Finance the total expenditure incurred by the Office of Public Works on the restoration of ancient buildings or castles of historic or archaeological merit, specifying each such building or castle for each of the five years ended on 31 December 1978.

Restoration works were carried out at seven such buildings during this period. Maintenance and conservation works were done at the same time and it is not feasible to segregate the costs of restoration works. The total expenditure on the seven buildings for the five years was £1,164,914.
The combined expenditure on each of the seven buildings for each year is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I will have circulated with the Official Report. Following is the statement:
