Vol. 314 No. 10

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

238.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction the proposed Corbally/Dromineen Group Water Scheme, County Cork.

I understand that Cork County Council may require the source proposed for the group scheme, which was the old source of the Kanturk public water supply, to augment the water supply to Kanturk due to high consumption now occurring on the Ballinatona Springs scheme. This matter has been the subject of discussions between the technical officers of my Department and of the council, and the council have been asked to clarify their plans with regard to the use of the old Kanturk source.

239.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction a sewerage scheme for Drinagh Village, County Cork.

The local authority's proposals for this scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes and the number of such schemes in progress or getting to construction at the present time. Having regard to the priority of the scheme and the need to conserve the capital available for the schemes of highest priority I cannot say at this stage when I will be in a position to approve Drinagh sewerage scheme preliminary proposals for which are under consideration in my Department.
