Vol. 315 No. 1

Written Answers. - Stolen Blind Welfare Cheque.

82.

asked the Minister for Health why a recipient of an EHB blind welfare cheque (details supplied) was not compensated in respect of a cheque stolen over one year ago; if he is aware of other cases of cheques stolen at source; if the Garda were notified by the EHB; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand from inquiries to the Eastern Health Board that a replacement cheque has now been issued in this case. The usual procedure followed by the health board in cases where recipients claim that they have not received cheques posted to them is to notify the Garda for the purpose of investigating the matter. This was done in the case in question. The health board have no evidence to indicate that in this or other cases cheques have been stolen at source.
