Vol. 315 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teachers In-Service Courses.

113.

asked the Minister for Education the current rates for travelling allowances for teachers attending in-service courses; if he will amend the rates to provide adequate compensation for teachers who may wish to attend the in-service courses advertised in the newspapers on 28 May; and the new levels which will apply.

The travel allowance payable to teachers attending authorised in-service courses is related to public transport fares applying at the time of the course. In the event that public transport is not suitable, or is not available, a contribution in aid of car travel is made. The rate of this contribution has been increased from 3p per mile to 5p per mile for the current session of courses and the new rate will apply to the in-service courses advertised in the newspapers on 28 May last.

I have arranged that the rates of allowances in respect of such courses will again be reviewed before the beginning of the 1980 programme.
