Vol. 315 No. 13

Written Answers. - Insurance Loading.

128.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the reasons a disabled person (details supplied) in Dublin who drives a specially adapted car is charged 50 per cent extra insurance loading for disability in view of the fact that he has passed his driving test and if this loading will be removed.

Disability loadings are a normal feature of underwriting practice and reflect the higher level of risk for this category of driver. However, the insurers have informed me on a number of occasions that they are prepared to examine each case as sympathetically as possible and I propose, accordingly, to have inquiries made about the person in respect of whom details were supplied by the Deputy.
