Vol. 315 No. 16

Written Answers. - Derelict Sites Demolition.

41.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is satisfied that existing legislation, governing the demolition of derelict sites, is operable in a satisfactory manner, and if not, the plans, if any, he has to amend the legislation.

The purpose of the Derelict Sites Act, 1961, is to provide a fair but effective procedure whereby local authorities can secure the clearance and improvement of derelict sites which are in a condition injurious to health or amenities. I am not aware of any legal difficulties which prevent the satisfactory operation of the Act.
