Vol. 315 No. 16

Written Answers. - Housing of Itinerants.

43.

asked the Minister for the Environment the estimated number of itinerant families not yet housed; the number of these who have intimated that they wish to be housed; and if a phased plan exists to cater for those seeking rehousing.

The last annual census of travelling people which was taken in October 1978 showed that there were 946 families who had not then been housed, and that 687 of these would wish to be housed.

The programme for settlement of itinerant families is an ongoing one and local authorities continue to be urged to intensify their efforts to meet the needs on a planned basis.
