Vol. 315 No. 16

Written Answers. - NET Gas Leak.

54.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the serious ammonia gas leak at the NET plant, Marino Point, Cork on 2 July 1979; if he has received a report on the environmental damage caused by that leak; and the environmental safeguards being implemented to ensure the safe handling of the hazardous materials in the NET plant.

I am advised that on 2 July 1979 liquid ammonia gas leaked from a ship which was moored at the jetty adjoining the Nítrigin Éireann factory at Marino Point and that no environmental damage was caused by that leak. I am also advised that steps are being taken by Nítrigin Éireann to ensure that leakage of ammonia both from ships at the jetty and from the factory will not recur.
