Vol. 315 No. 16

Written Answers. - Knocknaheeny (Cork) School Provision.

66.

asked the Minister for Education the progress made to date towards meeting the wishes of the parents of the Knocknaheeny area of Cork city for a coeducational primary school for their children.

I am concerned lest the form in which the question has been presented by the Deputy should cause a misunderstanding of the factual situation.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to questions on this matter on 21 February 1979, when I explained that the issue as to whether or not the proposed new schools should be organised on a coeducational basis is a matter for local decision. Representatives of a group who desire that the schools should be organised on a coeducational basis were, at their request, recently received by officials of my Department. The views put forward by them were reported to me and a reply will be sent to them at an early date.

Questions Nos. 67 and 68 postponed.
