Vol. 315 No. 16

Written Answers. - Dublin Castle Excavations.

114.

asked the Minister for Finance the reasons no report was lodged in accordance with section 23 of the National Monuments Act in respect of the excavation carried out by the Office of Public Works at Dublin Castle in 1961-2 and if a report of the excavation has been published.

The excavations at Dublin Castle were carried out in 1961-62 by an archaeologist on the staff of the Office of Public Works.

It was intended that the archaeologist should complete the excavation at a later stage when certain building works had been carried out but he resigned from the employment of the Office of Public Works before the excavation could be resumed.

The finds from the excavation and an interim report on it are in the Office of Public Works.
