Vol. 316 No. 1

Written Answers. - Recreational Therapy.

466.

asked the Minister for Health the measures being taken to assist the National Psychiatric and Recreational Council in their attempt to implement a policy of recreational therapy in psychiatric institutions.

Suggestions on this subject made by members of the council at a meeting with officers of my Department in April 1978 were subsequently circulated to health boards and the general position regarding the provisions for recreational therapy in district mental hospitals was reviewed.

Arising out of the review health boards have decided to improve recreational activities in a number of mental hospitals and I have advised the council of these developments and suggested that members should contact the appropriate officers of their local health boards to assist in the planning and organisation of such facilities.
