asked the Minister for the Environment whether he obtains, or proposes to obtain, from the building societies information relating to (a) the average duration of mortgages, and (b) the average distance moved by mortgage holders who redeem a mortgage and subsequently take out a new mortgage on another property, in order to enable a study of the degree to which rapid increases in property values produce an element of property speculation in the pattern of home ownership.

No such information is at present obtained from building societies nor is it proposed to obtain it as I am not clear that it would serve a useful purpose to do so.
