Vol. 316 No. 12

Written Answers. - Shannon Mail Order Business.

426.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the steps, if any, taken to extend the mail order business at Shannon and the results to date.

Aer Rianta are constantly exploring means of increasing revenue from the Shannon mail order business. The North American and Canadian market is under continuous review by the company with a view to increasing sales. The success of Aer Rianta's endeavours to date is indicated by the sales figures for 1977 and 1978, which amounted to £2,510,291 and £2,619,839, respectively. The projected sales figure for 1979 is £3,170,000, which would represent an increase of 21 per cent on the 1978 figure.

Aer Rianta are at present examining the potential of the European mail order market, including Great Britain, with a view to possibly extending the Shannon mail order business to this new area.
