Vol. 316 No. 12

Written Answers. - Village Sewerage Schemes.

467.

asked the Minister for Economic Planning and Development the priority, if any, given in applications for EEC Regional Aid to small village sewerage schemes and if such schemes qualify for aid from the fund.

The Regional Fund Regulation provides that the fund may contribute to the financing of investments which individually exceed 50,000 European units of account (£33,500). However, it specifies that member states shall give priority to the presentation of requests for contributions towards large investments. Therefore in selecting projects for submission for Regional Fund assistance priority is given to large projects.

Nevertheless where smaller projects such as small sewerage schemes are of importance to the development of the region in which they are located they may be included in our applications for fund assistance provided that they comply with the requirements of the fund regulation.
