Vol. 316 No. 13

Written Answers. - Mayo Industrial Expansion.

350.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy his plans for industrial expansion in County Mayo.

The Industrial Development Authority's Industrial Plan 1978-82 has set the following job targets for County Mayo town groups:

Ballinrobe, Claremorris, Ballyhaunis

600

Castlebar, Westport, Newport

1,000

Ballina, Crossmolina, Killala

950

Charlestown, Foxford, Swinford, Kiltimagh

400

Bangor, Keel

100

Louisburgh and the Clifden Rural District

200

Advance factories with a total area exceeding 165,000 sq. ft. have been provided. A further 96,000 sq. ft. are under construction at present. Construction is expected to start in the new year on the two 24,000 sq. ft. advance factories at Castlebar which I recently announced.

I understand that the IDA are at an advanced stage of negotiations with a company which is considering the location of a project in Charlestown.

The IDA are negotiating 14 small industry projects for a number of locations in County Mayo. These projects have an employment potential of over 150.
