Vol. 317 No. 2

Supplementary Estimates, 1979. - Industrial Research and Standards (Amendment) Bill, 1979: Fifth Stage.

I move: "That the Bill do now pass."

In the light of what has now transpired—that there is no precedent for what is in the Bill in section 2 (2), despite the fact that the Minister has indicated that there are many precedents—and of the attitude adopted by the Opposition in calling for a vote on this, would the Minister consider deleting this section which, according to her, gives the option to the Minister for Finance to opt out of his underwriting obligations in cases like this? This is the first time this has happened. In the light of what has happened, would she reconsider the position with regard to section 2 (2) when this Bill goes to Seanad Éireann?

I would not reconsider.

Question put and agreed to.
