Vol. 317 No. 3

Written Answers. - IDA Job Creation Efforts.

346.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if he will outline the job creation efforts made by the IDA with regard to North-Central Dublin, the estimated number of jobs, and how soon these will be filled and the category and type of jobs proposed.

The Industrial Development Authority have established a special unit in their east region office to promote industrial development in the Dublin inner city. The unit will help to secure suitable sites and buildings as part of their effort to encourage the establishment and expansion of small industries in the inner city. The unit are at present engaged in a major programme of consultation with community groups in the area.

The Authority have acquired a site at East Wall Road at which approximately 100,000 sq. ft. of advance factory space will be provided. These units will be available to suitable industrial projects, probably principally in the engineering and clothing sectors, from 1980 onwards. It is expected that this development will provide about 250 jobs when fully occupied.

A considerable number of new jobs will also arise from expansion of industries in the area, which of course may avail of the full range of IDA incentives. The Authority expect that up to 1,000 new industrial jobs will be created in the north-east inner city in the period up to 1982.
