asked the Taoiseach the number of married women at work as of the latest available date and the number as a percentage of the total number of women at work.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 394 and 395 together.

The latest information available is that derived from the 1977 Labour Force Survey, which was undertaken in late April 1977. It is estimated from that survey that the number of widowed women at work was 17,900 and the number of married women at work was 81,300. These figures represent 6.2 per cent and 28.2 per cent respectively of the total number of women at work.
