Vol. 317 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Neon Signs.

13.

asked the Minister for the Environment the rules governing the erection of neon signs on a temporary basis (a) in the inner city and (b) in the suburbs, and if planning permission was sought or granted for the erection of such signs (details supplied) at shops in Dublin.

Planning permission is normally required for the erection of signs whether on a temporary or permanent basis and whether located in the inner city or the suburbs. Certain signs are exempted from planning control and relevant details are set out in the Local Government (Planning and Development) Regulations, 1977. I understand from Dublin Corporation that planning permission has not been sought or granted for the erection of the signs referred to by the Deputy and that enforcement action under the Planning Acts for their removal has been initiated.
