Vol. 317 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Urban Boundaries.

24.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the difficulties caused to urban dwellers throughout the country due to the present allocation of urban boundaries which result in built-up areas being outside the jurisdiction of an urban authority and the proposals, if any, to simplify the procedure whereby local authorities can apply for an extension of boundaries and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The present procedures for extending urban boundaries operate reasonably well and a number of boundary changes have been made in recent years. However, I accept that there may be a case for some simplification of the present procedures and I would propose to have this examined in the context of the next general local government Bill.
