Vol. 317 No. 5

Written Answers. - Community Schools.

103.

asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the practice of selection by some community schools; the nature of any criteria on which selection at entry is made by such schools; whether such criteria have the sanction of his Department; and if he will establish guidelines for community schools which may have more applicants than places in any given year.

The policy in relation to community schools is that they serve a total community and are unrestrictive as to entry for people of their area.

I consider that where a problem should arise because the number of applicants in the case of an individual school should exceed the accommodation available, the matter would be primarily for the board of management to resolve.
