Vol. 317 No. 5

Written Answers. - UN Sanctions on Rhodesia.

376.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the measures being taken by his Department in conjunction with other Departments of State to ensure compliance by Irish citizens and companies with UN sanctions on Rhodesia.

In so far as my Department are concerned UN sanctions in regard to trade with Southern Rhodesia are implemented by means of (a) the Control of Exports (Southern Rhodesia) Order which is renewed by me annually after consultation with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and (b) the Restriction of Imports (Goods from Southern Rhodesia) Order, 1966. The effect of the orders is to prohibit, except under licence issued by my Department, the import of all goods manufactured or produced in Southern Rhodesia and the export thereto of all manufactured goods and some agricultural products. Licences are issued with due regard to the relevant UN Resolutions.
