Vol. 317 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employees' Rights.

7.

asked the Minister for Labour when he intends to introduce legislation bringing into force the EEC directive on the approximation of the laws of member states relating to the safeguarding of employees' rights in the event of transfers of undertakings, businesses or parts of businesses.

I have already directed that work should be undertaken on regulations, to be made under the European Communities Acts, to implement the EEC Directive on the approximation of the laws of member states relating to the safeguarding of employees' rights in the event of transfers of undertakings, businesses or parts of businesses.

Discussion is taking place with the parliamentary draftsman on a draft of the regulations. It is my intention to send copies of the draft in due course to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, the Federated Union of Employers and the Commission.

Any suggestions received will, of course, be considered before the regulations are made. At this stage it would not be possible for me to indicate a date for the making of the regulations.
