Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Organisations in Britain.

38.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will arrange for the provision of financial assistance to Irish organisations in Britain, particularly the Irish Centre, to enable them to meet the increasing demand for the care and welfare of Irish emigrants in Britain and if he will outline his proposals to deal with the matter.

A special sum of £25,000 was provided this year by way of Supplementary Estimate for my Department to help with the employment of social workers by Irish centres in Britain. The money will be allocated to various centres on the basis of the determination of their needs by the Committee on Emigrants' Services. Representatives of the Committee visited Britain recently and they have submitted a report to the full Committee who expect to arrange for the payment of grants in the next few weeks.
