asked the Minister for Justice the number of convictions for drunken driving since the lower blood alcohol limit was introduced and the figures for the same period in the previous year.

Crime statistics are compiled by the Garda on an annual basis and are not available in respect of the periods mentioned in the question. In 1977 and 1978 the numbers of convictions for drinking-and-driving offences were 2,667 and 2,688 respectively.
