Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Sir Tyrone Guthrie's Bequest.

142.

asked the Minister for Finance the progress made to date to fulfil the wishes of the late Sir Tyrone Guthrie in respect of his home at Annamakerrig in County Monaghan.

In his will Sir Tyrone Guthrie bequeathed Annamakerrig House together with its contents and the income from the residue of his estate to the Minister for Finance. The bequest was given on condition that the House and income from the residue would be applied to enable the property to be used as a retreat for artists and other like persons to enable them to do creative work.

In accordance with the terms of the will, it has been arranged that the Arts Council will administer this project and they have already taken possession of the House. I understand that they hope to be in a position to have some artists in residence next year.
